Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understandings

Identify and explore a range of digital systems with peripheral devices for different purposes, and transmit different types of data (ACTDIK007)

  • using different peripheral devices to display information to others, for example using a mobile device, interactive whiteboard or a data projector to present information

Digital Technologies Processes and Production Skills

Collect, access and present different types of data using simple software to create information and solve problems (ACTDIP009)

 

  • selecting appropriate formats or layout styles to present data as information depending on the type of data and the audience, for example lists, tables, graphs, animations, info graphics and presentations

  • using different techniques to present data as information, for example creating a column chart in a spreadsheet by colouring cells to represent different items

  • improving the appearance and usability of data, for example using colour, headings and labelling of images to organise and accurately identify data

Assessment Task : Healthy Lunch Time

This assessment task is the culmination of the unit title ‘Healthy Lunch Time’.  During the unit, students have explored which foods might be included in a healthy lunch box and other everyday foods or snacks that make them healthy.

Health and Physical Eduation

Identify and practise strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing (ACPPS036)

  • examining their own eating patterns by researching The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and identifying healthier food choices

Describe strategies to make the classroom and playground healthy, safe and active spaces (ACPPS040)

  • creating promotional posters to display around the school containing positive health and physical activity messages

Statistics and Probability

Data representation and interpretation

Collect data, organise into categories and create displays using lists, tables, picture graphs and simple column graphs, with and without the use of digital technologies (ACMSP069)

  • exploring meaningful and increasingly efficient ways to record data, and representing and reporting the results of investigations

  • collecting data to investigate features in the natural environment

  • comparing various student-generated data representations and describing their similarities and differences

Unit 1 - Making Health Choices

In this unit, students explore the concept of health and the reasons why the food eaten is important. They explore the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and the importance of eating breakfast and lunch.

Students will:

  • identify all the things that make them a healthy person

  • explore the reasons why the food we eat is important; that it contributes to concentration and learning, healthy hair and skin, working muscles, healthy blood, strong bones etc.

  • identify the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating

  • explore the importance of eating breakfast and use the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating to explore breakfast foods

identify the need for a healthy lunch and use the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating to explore lunch offerings.
